The right umbrella for every occasion

January 9, 2016

Caught out by the weather

Whether you are travelling by car, by train or simply walking through the city, the weather keeps surprising you with brief snow or rain showers. The pocket umbrella, often also called a compact umbrella, is the ideal companion for these situations. As long as it is not needed, it waits in the boot ready for use and also fits into any handbag or backpack. The low weight of pocket umbrellas is the trump card of these models. Quickly packed away and always at hand, they protect against unexpected rain showers and bring their owner home dry after a stroll through town.

The little companion has one big advantage over caps and hoods: it keeps the water away from your clothes in the first place. Hoods are often pulled up quickly to get through short distances, such as from the station to the bus, more or less dry. In the process, however, the clothing becomes damp and uncomfortable to wear. An umbrella, whether a pocket or a stick umbrella, protects the owner and their clothing alike. Umbrellas are also often preferred so that the hairstyle does not suffer under a cap.

A walk in the rain

When the rain refuses to stop all day long and you know from the outset that an umbrella will be needed, the stick umbrella is the perfect choice. As a rule, these are larger in diameter than pocket umbrellas and therefore offer more protection. This way your clothes stay dry, and even longer spells in the rain are enjoyable, provided you wear weather-appropriate clothing. The large-format stick umbrella, with a diameter of 120 cm or more, even offers protection for two people.

Guest umbrellas

Hotels and guesthouses in particular often provide their visitors with umbrellas bearing an advertising print. Compared with other promotional items, the umbrella offers a large advertising surface in public spaces. Guests enjoy the luxury of having an umbrella available whenever they need one, without always having to fetch their own from the room. Guest umbrellas are often printed with a logo, but photo prints and full-surface prints are also possible. In this way the umbrella becomes not only an advertising medium but also a keepsake of a lovely holiday.

Child's play and child-safe

At school age it quickly becomes clear: the rain poncho and the rain jacket have had their day. Pupils very quickly come to prefer an umbrella, which has the advantage that the school bag or backpack also finds room under the umbrella and thus stays dry. With models for children, it is very important that the tips and the crown are heavily rounded or ball-shaped. This reduces the risk of injury many times over. So that the umbrella can be opened and closed safely and easily, most children's umbrellas feature an automatic opening mechanism.

Out and about safely - being seen

Some manufacturers offer umbrellas with reflectors in a wide variety of designs: reflective tape or prints in reflective paint are very simple yet effective ways of increasing the visibility of pedestrians in the grey wet.

Occasions for umbrellas

And so the different models really do offer added value for every occasion. If they are left to dry while open, they stay attractive for longer and keep protecting you in rainy weather.
