Bianca Consoli moved to Vorarlberg five years ago without any knowledge of German. In an interview with the VN, she explains how her determination, openness and patience enabled her to become an indispensable online marketing expert and dedicated master's student.
After completing her bachelor's degree in communication in Argentina, Bianca was inspired by an acquaintance to move to the other side of the world. "After my studies, I wanted to gain experience and then decided in November 2020 to work in Austria," explains the young Argentine. But her plan to work as a Spanish-speaking childcare worker in a winter sports hotel in Klösterle did not work out due to the pandemic – the Covid virus put a stop to her plans.
Rough start
"So I had to come up with something else in terms of work," she explains during our conversation. Without further delay, the ambitious Argentine applied to various companies and, after a few diversions, ended up at Schirmmacher in Götzis. Impressed by her commitment, company founder Christian Ströhle took a pragmatic approach and created a new position for Bianca.
"It wasn't easy at first," Bianca recalls with a smile. Not only did the coronavirus make the situation more difficult, but her lack of German language skills was also a particular hurdle. Since she initially lived with a family during the pandemic who mainly spoke standard German with her, the dialect was a particular challenge after she moved to Götzis. "I have to say, it was a challenge. But you learn it over time." Today, she is an indispensable international marketing expert at the company and can put her multilingual skills to good use.
Arriving in the new homeland
The young lady has now established a life for herself here and lives with her partner in Götzis. "At first, I actually wanted to return to Argentina at some point," admits the marketing expert. However, she enjoyed it so much here that she has now been living in Vorarlberg for five years. Bianca is now not only a key member of the Schirmmacher team, but is also completing her master's degree in international marketing at the University of Applied Sciences. In addition, the Götzner is also active as a group leader at the Hohenems running club, where she has become an integral part of the club.
Now that she lives on the other side of the world, Bianca only sees her family occasionally. "But the people of Vorarlberg are very open and warm, so I quickly made friends," says the hard-working and warm-hearted Argentinean gratefully. When she feels homesick, the active student likes to distract herself with hiking, climbing or skiing. "I love the mountains, and my father and brother are ski instructors in Argentina. So I always have a piece of home with me somehow."
When asked what advice she would give to people who also want to live and work abroad, Bianca offers two tips: "Firstly, be determined and stay strong. There will be difficult times when homesickness will certainly prevail." Secondly, she says it is important to always remain positive and patient: "Things won't always go the way you want them to, but sooner or later everything will fall into place." Bianca doesn't know yet whether she will stay in Vorarlberg forever, but she remains open to whatever the future holds.
